Fratelli Ferrero Winery
A century in the winery between tradition and innovation
At the center of Annunziata, a small hamlet of La Morra and a land of inestimable value for the production of Barolo, is the Fratelli Ferrero winery. Founded in 1930, the company carries on the ancient family traditions, concentrating all the knowledge and passion on producing the typical Langhe wines using modern technologies focusing on quality, sustainability, and tradition.
The winery owns 4 hectares of land; one part of the vineyards surrounds the winery, while another is located in the nearby Manzoni hamlet, where our family moved in the second half of the 19th century. Here, even today, there is an old cellar dating back to 1750 used for the aging of Barolo Bricco Manzoni, a Barolo of sublime quality, produced only in the best vintages.

Manzoni Cellar
For a Barolo of sublime quality, produced only in the best vintages.
The old family house, built in 1750 with a special technique, is in the hamlet of the same name. The house’s foundations, consisting of the cellar in which Manzoni Barolo is aged today, were built by digging the furrow of the walls in the ground and resting the bricks of the vault on the earth. Once the structure was completed, the cellar was emptied, which still bears the characteristic signs of the construction: earthen floor, irregular vault, and walls of “sas,” sand that once solidified is extremely solid and stable.
Our History
in short
Early days
Settimo Giuseppe
Our history began in the early 20th century in the small town of l'Annunziata, when Settimo Giuseppe, Renato's maternal grandfather, started the business.
The Fifties
Lorenzo Ferrero
Lorenzo Ferrero, Renato's father, restored the family vineyards, grafting native rootstocks onto American vine rootstocks, the only ones capable of resisting the aphid.
The Third Generation
Renato e Nina Ferrero
Consolidating his work with the introduction of Doc in the 1980s, Renato devoted body and soul to the company he inherited from his father, even later with the help of Nina.
The Fourth Generation
Andreas e Jonas Ferrero
The two brothers have taken over the winery, bringing new ideas and innovating production methods without losing their eye for tradition.
EARLY DAYS: SETTIMO GIUSEPPE
The history of the Ferrero winery began in the early 20th century in the small town of l’Annunziata, when Settimo Giuseppe, Renato’s maternal grandfather, started the business. Despite the mixed character of the winery, even then, the prized Nebbiolo grapes were being vinified and bottled. The plaque given to him as an award for his wines by the town of La Morra, dated 1933, testifies to the commitment and passion for viticulture that has always characterized the Ferrero winery.
However, during World War II, the vineyards were uprooted to make way for wheat. During the same period, Europe was hit by a severe phylloxera epidemic, an insect imported from America that was highly harmful to our vines.
THE FIFTIES: LORENZO FERRERO
Thus, in the 1950s, Lorenzo Ferrero, Renato’s father, restored the family vineyards, grafting native rootstocks onto American vine rootstocks, the only ones capable of resisting the aphid. In those days, the grapes produced were partly vinified and sold, so Lorenzo began creating his own small market. Barolo and Nebbiolo were already bottled then, while other wines were mostly sold in bulk. However, his father’s untimely death in 1966 led to a slowdown in the business.
THE THIRD GENERATION: RENATO AND NINA FERRERO
Later, a young Renato and his older brother resumed winemaking, consolidating their work with the introduction of DOC in the 1980s. At the same time, however, the company’s small size prompted his brother to leave. From that day, Renato devoted body and soul to the winery he inherited from his father, slowly beginning to expand.
Since the 1990s, Nina has been working alongside her husband Renato in running the winery, especially taking care of the reception for winery tours, the Holiday House, and guided tastings.
THE FOURTH GENERATION: ANDREAS AND JONAS FERRERO
Now the fourth generation, Nina and Renato’s sons Andreas and Jonas, have taken over the winery, bringing new ideas and innovating production methods while keeping an eye on tradition.
Currently, the Ferrero winery has a total area of about 4 hectares, producing about 30,000 bottles a year.
